Being the paint freak that I am, I have more paint chips than god. There are a gazillion other uses for paint chips, but this one was really fun! Here's what we did:
We grabbed one paint chip for each basic color- reds, oranges, yellows, greens, blues, purples, blacks, browns, whites.
Then we used various hole punchers to make a "window" in each color shade.
I lined all the paint chips up and had the kids take turns picking their colors. Of course they picked their favorites first because they had no idea what they were for were for!
After they picked their colors, I told them we were going to take a "Color Walk." It's Nature Walk meets I Spy- while you explore nature you look for colors that might match your paint chips. The kids were so excited!
The "windows" on the paint chips make it easy to see whether or not you have a match. Woobie knew instantly that this leaf was a little too "greeny green" and needed to be more "grayish green!"
That tiny mushroom is a VERY close match to "red tomato"
Didn't think we'd find purple on our nature walk!
The whole family had fun really using our eyes to find our colors. We take nature walks in the trails around our house often, but we don't usually see anything spectacular. This activity made us realize that there's plenty to see for those who look!
