I've been so caught up in finishing my studio that I've kind of tuned out the world around me, so when Aislin reminded me last night that today was the last day of school and we didn't make our teacher gifts yet, I had to spring into action! Since there's no shortage of new frames at my house (I have a minor obsession with them!) I decided I would decorate a frame for her teacher. I love making paper roses and I decided that book pages would be very appropriate!
These came in packs of three in either black or white at Target a few years ago. They were only $1!!! I bought like three of each. I had intended to use them all on another project, but never got around to it. Huge shocker, right?!
If you don't have an abundance of loose book pages {kill two birds with one stone}
Cut the book pages into circles. You can save time by layering your paper and cutting them out. If you want a very uniform look use a circle template for all of your circles.
Cut the circles into spirals, starting at the outside and working your way in. Again, if you want them to be very uniform use a template. I wanted a more random look, so I just cut them randomly.
Using your thumb and middle finger, roll the spiral up.
Once you reach the end it should look like this.
Release the spiral on your work surface and it will loosen somewhat. If you want it to be more open, you can drop it a couple of times and it will loosen up more.
Using hot glue, secure the rose to a small piece of the paper and trim any excess.
Apply hot glue to the bottom of the rose and secure it to the frame.
If you made all your spirals the same, you can apply the roses covering the frame without too much think work. Mine were random so I put down a few big roses and then filled the gaps with little ones.
PHEW! The 1 1/2 hour mark! (I sped up once I realized it was past midnight!)

I added a satin ribbon to hang it with. I love the color of the old book pages next to the crisp Tiffany blue.
The whole project took about 2 hours, but the cost was next to nothing, literally! I think they would make great table markers at a whimsical wedding... throw in a few bird cages and a ladder, maybe a bunting? C'mon, everyone's doing it!
