Wow! Easter was AWESOME! I have to admit that I was slightly suspicious that something would go horribly wrong because the day started off too perfectly. First off, I had decided (with help from the lovely, amazing Alison Salmon - retail goddess extraordinaire) to pair the girls' dresses with a soft powder blue. I found a great top for Aislin at H&M that set everything in motion. From there I found cute socks for Marlee in the same shade of blue. On a whim I grabbed a ton of blue ribbon from Walmart. I knew it was the wrong blue, but I was desperate to find more blue to pull the outfits together. For Caleb's outfit, I had just sort of grabbed a white polo for him, knowing that he had some nice khakis to go with it, but by some amazing stroke of luck, I stumbled on a powder blue sweater-vest in his wardrobe that I had purchased for Easter last year, but a) it was too big at the time and b) it wound up not matching his sisters' outfits so I scratched it. Honestly... it just came together so well! Here is the outcome!
Although I couldn't get everyone to look in the same direction to save my life, their outfits were a smashing success!
Marlee's dress worked out great. I did sew a bit of blue ribbon across the waistline of the dress. The ribbon was long enough to tie a nice bow in the back, helping to keep the dress form fitting. I also removed the cream colored bow from the waistline and replaced it with a blue one. I wanted to pull in the white sweater a bit as well, so I used blue ribbon to weave into the sleeves at the wrist and I tied them off with a bow. Her hair bow was made with the same ribbon. I topped it off with sweet little t-strap Mary-Janes. The whole thing reminds me of the fancy dresses we wore for Easter back in the day. Is it me, or is Easter not fancy anymore?!
Aislin's outfit was topped off with a blue headband, a sweater, and knee socks embelished with blue ribbons. (We both have a thing for knee socks... it's an addiction, really.) Caleb is completely out of his element. Tucked in shirts and sweater-vests are not his idea of a good time.
Favorite Pictures of the Day:
This is Caleb. Everything about this makes me laugh. He is so... him.
I can haz melt-down? Hahaha! She was so mad that I wouldn't keep swinging her on the rope swing. The good news is that if you let her have her fit, it's over within the minute and she's apologizing. Phew!
This brings me back to my childhood. All dressed up and climbing trees. The skinned knee makes this entire picture.
Marlee playing baseball with Uncle Alec. Do we have a lefty?!
All in all it was a great day! The kids were so good about visiting everyone and they seemed to enjoy themselves. Ironically enough, the outfits remained SPOTLESS today. You know that if I had spent good money on their clothes they would've have been all kinds of ruined! C'est la vie! It was a lovely day. Thanks to everyone that had us :)
