So for the past few months I've been debating on getting a new dining table. The one we had was actually my parents' when I was growing up, and you know me, the second it was offered to me I took it. It was actually one of my first brave DIY projects. It was just a typical pine table with country style chairs and a bench, similar to the one below, except all of it was the honey pine.
It was cute, but when I entered my "everything must be black" stage, it was the first victim. I also hated the chairs and a few of them got broken mysteriously (hmmmm) so when I saw a set of 4 beat up rattan chairs on the side of the road, I was all over it! I immediately spray painted them black and thanks to my amazing mom {she supplies my habit constantly!} I repadded and recovered the seats in a grey microfiber and they looked much better!
All in all I really enjoyed the set, however I have reached a point where I'm not a style-phobe anymore. For so long I've stuck to simple designs, safe colors choices, and matchy/coordinating everything. I do have bold taste. I am attracted to colorful things. Why have I been living in a beige box? Anyway, there's this table style that I have been coveting in my head for weeks. Think rustic wood with nice steel legs- old world meets clean lines. I searched the interwebs and managed to find a few pieces that seemed to capture what I was looking for.
This coffee table from Woodland Creek had the right feel, but I really wanted simple legs, preferably steel.
Then I found this and nearly died! This was EXACTLY what I had in mind. Too bad Peppermill Antiques is in the U.K.!!!
Like many of my ideas, I put it on the backburner. Most people would frown upon this, but not me. I win every time. As far as furniture goes - NEVER settle for less than what you had imagined. Not only does the piece you want exist, but you will find it at a yard sale for half what you paid for the item you settled on. TRUST ME!
Case in point:
Bought it at a thrift store yesterday!
I really love the texture. All the little imperfections make this table so charming!
I love the design of it. It reminds me of a door to a castle.
Imagine that... EXACTLY what I was looking for! Rustic meets contemporary.
The second best part:
Add a leaf and I can now fit 2-3 more guests with ease!
Slide the other end out and add a leaf for another 2-3 more! The table is much bigger than it appears and could very comfortably fit 10 adults.
I haven't decided whether or not I will be using chairs all the way around when we have guests or if I'll create my own seating. Either way the wheels are turning!
Ok so the BEST part was obviously the price. Drumroll please...
$64.99
Yes, sixty four dollars, ninety-nine cents!!!!
Damn it feels good to be a gansta!
